I am a mother, teacher, vice-principal and principal, trained international life/business coach and am a passionate advocate for teens. As an educator, I witnessed firsthand the challenges young people face in a world dominated by technology and instant communication. After the sudden loss of my beloved niece, I was inspired to write this book and help raise awareness about the devastating reality of youth suicide. I am hoping to spark conversations, offer support, and make a difference in the lives of struggling teens. My ultimate goal is to read the book to tweens and teens in schools and have a authentic, open, conversations regarding the longstanding impact of our actions and words. We need to make them count.

I was born in Guelph, Ontario and spent most of my formative years in the Fergus/Elora/Guelph area. I come from a family of avid readers and writers. I was the child who wanted to run, play, be free, play sports and try out every possible new activity that existed. I remember many a Saturday morning frustration as my entire family happily read the latest newspaper or book as I would peruse the comic section. 😄
My daughter asked for company while she was working in the library over the summer preparing her university applications. I took several books with me to read but somehow ended up starting a book of my own about my niece and her challenging story.
What started out as a cathartic exercise became a passion project to help teens realize just how much they matter in this world.
Thank you Cheryl and Hunter Brown for your bravery and willingness to share McKenna's story. Through your honesty, openness and advocacy, you have already helped save lives and create awareness about teen suicide.
A special thank you to Dr. Beverley Elliot and Dr. Bernadetter Walsh for repeatedly editing and guiding me through the writing process. This book would not have made it to fruition without your valuable input. https://www.beverleyelliottbooks.com/
Thank you to family and friends who took the time to help me brainstorm and edit.
